Has anyone had an oportunity to dig in rocky ground? Does 2000 lbs of force work well enough for scraping rocks?

When I had my BX, I dug up rocks and cinder blocks and pushed it through hardpan you couldn't dent with a pickaxe. I have torn down buildings and ripped through roots as big as a strongman's arm, and all at half throttle or less.
You will be pleased and surprised at what it will do. ....

The BX's for maximum digging efficency needs to be run at 2/3 to full throttle. The unit actually performs very well for it's size at that point. ....

I sold the BX last year and moved up to a bit bigger package, a Deere 4115 with a 46 Backhoe.
As much as I liked the BX, the years have not been kind to my back and that, combined with a rough piece of land and those smaller wheels... something had to give.

I have now used my BX23 for about 15+ hours -- on rugged and rocky land. The backhoe had worked well thus far, digging in rocky soil and pulling out rocks when I use it at 3/4 throttle. Obviously, it also depends on your technique, since it does not have the raw brute force of a bigger machine. ....

The biggest single rock that I have dug out was maybe 150 lbs. about 3 feet by 2 ft by 6 inches. It was something that I would not have handled at all by hand. Most of the rocks were smaller. The backhoe handles it pretty good -- unless it does not have a grip on the rock. ....

For rocks I use a 'backhoe thumb'. With my BX I've grabbed and moved granite rocks up to about 2 feet diameter, several hundred pounds. You've got to be very careful driving with a heavy rock in the backhoe! ....

I've got a bx22 I purchased last Sept, and I am close to the 50 hour mark. I've been real happy with its performance in the New England rocky soil. I always run it at full throttle when runnunig the hoe or fel. Is there any reason not to? It definitely makes a difference in the speed and power. ....

This is exactly the same question I have. I'm in the market for a new Kubota and while the BX23 is very attractive I'm concened about how it'll do in the rocky soils of New England. Not only am in interested in digging 5-6 foot deep trenches, but I also need it to be able to scrape off the tio 4 inches of top soil around our property (lead abatement).
How do people think the loader will do for scraping off top soil?
Thanks
David

I have a new BX and had the same concerns - So far, I have dug some footings down to 3 feet (I don't think 5 - 6 feet would be a problem). As far as grading with the FEL, no problem once i added a tooth bar. ....
